The pledge of at least £20 million annual wealth fund will be the largest of its kind in the UK and forms the energy project’s commitment to pay 5% of revenue into a community benefit fund for Highland communities.
This aligns with what we (Scottish Community Coalition on Energy) called for in our response to the Scottish Government consultation on community benefits.
The fund is to support housing, skills and the environment. The firm’s director said, “The fund is underpinned by a developer-led research report—the first of its kind in the energy sector—drawing on regional engagement across Glen Urquhart, Stratherrick and Foyers.”
The 2GW scheme, located on Loch Ness, will deliver up to 34GWh of long-duration energy storage by 2030.
