Alexandre Afjool

Innovation Development Officer

An Innovation Development Officer and part of Orkney CES team since August 2019, Alexandre uses his technical knowledge of the renewable energy sector, and his project engineering and data analysis experience to support Community Energy Scotland activities.

He is currently involved in supporting the Cowal Community Energy project. As part of the project, he helps the Cowal Community Energy group with their approach to reach shared ownership agreements with two commercial wind developers. In parallel to that he is responsible for the options appraisal for community owned energy projects in the area focusing on community identified sites of interests and Private Wire Networks potential.

Alexandre has worked on the integration of renewable generators into the electricity grid. In the past, he has modeled Orkney generators’ load data, and curtailment based on the SCADA control system. He also conducted technical feasibility studies looking at the integration of REGs in constrained grid networks. He has an in depth knowledge of sustainable heat projects, and expertise in electrical load analysis having developed this work during his support of the SMILE project and leading on the Heat Pump Plus programme.

Really keen on outdoor adventure, he spends most of his free time in the ocean and surfs Orkney cold waters all year round. You might occasionally see him escape for a quick surf session in his lunchbreak!
