Jenni Marchant

Technical Officer

Jenni is a member of CES’ technical team, providing support across our members’ projects.

I joined Community Energy Scotland in July 2024 as part of the technical team, providing practical & technical support across a variety of exciting and innovative projects.

I am passionate about helping people and breaking down barriers to engagement, I believe that communities are best placed to drive lasting change, particularly when it comes to decarbonisation. My background is in the arts, with a focus on using them as a tool for engagement and education. I have a BA in Community Arts from the University of Strathclyde and an HND in Professional Photography & Imaging from Aberdeen College (now NESCOL).

I have worked in the third sector, with a focus on decarbonisation, for 6 years now, starting as a volunteer for a local charity on their therapeutic garden project, before taking up the role of Energy Champions worker covering domestic households throughout the region of Moray. I am experienced in domestic energy advice, fuel poverty support and advocacy, renewables and community engagement.

Before joining CES, my previous role was with the Highlands & Islands Home Energy Scotland advice team focusing on decarbonising homes in Scotland. I gained further experience in project management during this time and was also successful in achieving an external contractor role with the Energy Saving Trust as a part of their Fuel Poverty Support team.

I have a particular interest in tackling fuel poverty, especially as a part of the Just Transition to a net-zero society, ensuring those who are least able to pay are not disadvantaged, over-burdened, or left behind during the process of decarbonisation.

I am a keen linguist, with a particular fondness for the Germanic languages. I am also a textiles fan, and will knit, crochet, spin or sew for both therapeutic and practical reasons. I love the sea and the snow: I will get in the North Sea in most temperatures on my paddleboard or in my dookers*, and I am an enthusiastic (although I would not say skilled) snowboarder. I was gifted a longboard as a fortieth birthday present and I would advocate that you’re never too old to get on a board!
